We are always on the lookout for new players. The perception is that bowls is an old man’s game and while some of our best plays are older, they started years ago as younger men, All of our younger players today often say with regret “I wish I started playing earlier”
These days, the Australian Bowls team (The Jackaroos) are younger than the Australian Cricket team.
If at any time you played any Cricket, Footy or swung a Golf Club, the hand-to-eye coordination will serve you well with lawn bowls.
Throughout the year Wynnum competes in a couple of competitions against other clubs within our district and also further afield. Each team comprises 8 to 12 players in anywhere from 1st division to 8th division, No matter the level it is always a hard-fought competitive game.
The easiest way to get started would be to join us for one of our Saturday morning roll-up sessions at 11 am, where a couple of our experienced players will be available to show you the ropes, we can supply all the gear you will need, just bring some flat shoes. Grab a mate or 2, and fill in some details below. Let us know if it is just yourself or if you have a small group. In the off-season, we have social bowls on a Saturday afternoon where you can really cut your teeth. We will partner you up with an experienced player.
So, if your mindset is, I’ll play lawn bowls one day or when I retire, what is really holding you back from giving it a go now? We are confident after a month or two, you will also be saying, “I wish I had started playing earlier” We are a friendly club and have some of the lowest bar prices in the area for the all-important refreshment after a game.
